Mohali: Apna Punjab Media: In the latest Punjab News, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested Punjab Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Harcharan Singh Bhullar in connection with an alleged corruption case. During the operation, the CBI claimed to have recovered ₹5 crore in cash and 1.5 kilograms of gold from his residence in Sector 40, Chandigarh.
The arrest followed a complaint by Naresh Batta, a scrap dealer from Mandi Gobindgarh. Bhullar was allegedly taken into custody from his Mohali office and later arrested in Chandigarh. The complainant accused Bhullar of demanding a bribe of ₹8 lakh through a middleman named Krishanu — who was also arrested — to settle a 2023 FIR registered at Sirhind Police Station and ensure no coercive action was taken against him. This incident has drawn attention in the Punjab News, raising questions about corruption within the state police ranks.
Apart from cash and gold, the CBI claimed to have seized keys to BMW and Audi cars, property documents in Punjab including a farmhouse in Samrala, 22 luxury watches, 40 liters of imported liquor, a double-barrel gun, a pistol, a revolver, an airgun, and a large quantity of ammunition.
After nearly four hours of searching Bhullar’s residence, the CBI brought in cash-counting machines to tally the recovered money. An additional ₹21 lakh was seized from Krishanu’s possession. CBI officials confirmed that the search operation is still ongoing.
A 2009-batch IPS officer, Bhullar was posted as DIG of the Ropar Range in November 2024. The son of former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) M.S. Bhullar, he has held several senior positions including DIG of Patiala Range, Joint Director of the Vigilance Bureau, and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Jagraon, Mohali, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Khanna, Hoshiarpur, and Gurdaspur.
This arrest and recovery of assets is one of the latest updates in Punjab News, reflecting the CBI’s active role in investigating high-profile corruption cases within the state police. Stay updated with more breaking news and in-depth coverage from Apna Punjab Media.
