‘One Nation, One Election’ Bills: Committee Tenure Extended

In Latest India News Today, the Lok Sabha has extended the tenure of the parliamentary committee reviewing the ‘One Nation, One Election’ bills. These bills propose holding general and state assembly elections simultaneously.

Committee chairman P. P. Chaudhary moved a proposal to extend the Joint Committee on the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Centre-State Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, until the first day of the last week of the 2026 Budget session. The Lok Sabha approved this through a voice vote.

Formed in December last year, the Joint Committee has already met with constitutional experts, economists, and Law Commission chairman Dinesh Maheshwari, among others.
