The Supreme Court on Wednesday transferred the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College to the Calcutta High Court for further hearings. The apex court had taken suo motu cognisance of the incident in 2024, making it a major update in Indian News Breaking coverage.
A bench led by Justice M.M. Sundresh and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma ordered the authorities to send all case documents to the High Court. They also instructed officials to provide a copy of the status report to the victim’s parents.
The tragic incident occurred on August 9 last year, when hospital staff discovered the body of a postgraduate trainee doctor in the seminar room. Kolkata Police arrested a volunteer named Sanjay Roy the very next day.
