According to police officials, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel took Popat (24) and Gauri (20) into custody on Monday soon after they crossed the international border. An officer from the Balasar Police Station said the couple escaped from their village on Sunday night. Their village lies 8 km from the border, and they walked the entire distance.
BSF jawans patrolling near border pillar number 1016 noticed them and immediately detained the pair. During questioning, the couple revealed that they ran away because their families opposed their marriage. Authorities said they will continue the investigation through the concerned agencies.
