Sheri Rehman, a member of Pakistan’s National Assembly, warned that “using water as a weapon” will escalate hostility and deepen mistrust in already fragile relations. According to India Pakistan News, the Pakistan Peoples Party lawmaker made this statement at a time when India’s Ministry of Environment approved the Chenab River hydroelectric project.

The approval follows India’s suspension of the Sindh Water Treaty after the Pulwama terror attack in April this year.

In her post on X (formerly Twitter), Sheri Rehman highlighted India’s permission for the 260 MW “Dulhasti III” hydro project on the Chenab River in the Kishtwar district of Jammu & Kashmir. She called it a “clear violation” of the water-sharing agreement and stated, “In a region already vulnerable to climate change and seasonal pressures, using water as a weapon is neither wise nor acceptable.” According to India Pakistan News, such developments could increase tensions between the two countries if not addressed diplomatically.
