As shared in News Today Canada, Ontario Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria said the Eglinton Crosstown project is now in its final testing stage. He stated at a North York press briefing that the last phase of the revenue demonstration is almost complete. This means the line is close to opening.
The Revenue Service Demonstration lasts 30 days. During this period, Metrolinx runs the system like normal service but without passengers. This helps check if everything works smoothly.
Metrolinx CEO Michelle Lindsay said the team has tested the system in all weather conditions. She confirmed that service on the Finch West LRT will begin on December 7.
Sarkaria also announced an expansion of the One Fare Program. Riders in the Greater Toronto Area and Hamilton Area will no longer pay extra when switching between transit services. This update is an important highlight in News Today Canada.
