On the first day of the Winter Session, News Headlines India Today were dominated by loud protests in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha over the Special Summary Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Opposition members demanded an immediate discussion, leading to continuous disruptions.

In the Lok Sabha, repeated adjournments were announced as opposition MPs rushed to the well, shouting slogans. Speaker Om Birla warned members against breaking the dignity of the House. The government stated that it was ready for a discussion but could not commit to a time immediately.

The Rajya Sabha also witnessed uproar. Opposition MPs staged a walkout after their notices related to the SIR issue were rejected by Chairperson C.P. Radhakrishnan, who was presiding over proceedings for the first time and faced difficulty controlling the situation.

Despite the noisy atmosphere, the Lok Sabha managed to pass a bill revising GST laws in Manipur, where President’s Rule is currently in place. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced three bills during Zero Hour, including proposals on excise duty and a new health and national security cess on tobacco products and pan masala.

As disruptions continued, the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the entire day around 2:20 PM.

These dramatic scenes once again shaped News Headlines India Today, reflecting the intense political environment as the Winter Session begins.
