In a major update from Punjab News, the formal turban-tying ceremony (Dastarbandi) of Singh Sahib Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargarh, Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, will take place tomorrow at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Sri Anandpur Sahib. Preparations for the event are being carried out with great enthusiasm by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
This will mark the first time in history that a Jathedar’s second Dastarbandi ceremony is being held — a rare event making headlines in Punjab News circles.
It is noteworthy that earlier in March this year, the SGPC appointed Kuldeep Singh Gargarh as Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. However, the decision faced strong opposition from Nihang Singh organizations and the Sant Samaj.
In response to the protests, the SGPC had quietly held Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargarh’s Dastarbandi ceremony around 3 a.m. at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. The secretive event drew widespread attention and discussion at the time.
Since then, the Nihang Singh groups and Sant Samaj have continued to oppose Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargarh, refusing to acknowledge him as an official Singh Sahib.
