In a key update featured under News Today India, Members of Parliament from Punjab raised concerns about the severe losses faced by farmers after recent floods. During Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang said that heavy rainfall in August–September caused serious damage in 2,500 villages across six districts.
Kang reminded the House that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Union ministers visited the affected areas, yet Punjab has not received any of the promised central aid. He demanded a ₹50,000-crore relief package for farmers.
Shiromani Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal added that floods in the Ravi and Beas rivers left nearly five lakh hectares of farmland buried under silt. She appealed to the Centre to take urgent steps to support the affected families and requested direct compensation to farmers’ bank accounts. This concern, now highlighted again in News Today India, reflects the growing pressure on the central government to respond quickly.
