Highlighting concerns reported in CM Punjab News Today, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that the Central Government has postponed several major issues related to Punjab, including river water distribution, sharing of administrative rights with neighboring states, and the reorganization of Panjab University. His remarks came a day after he attended the 32nd Northern Zonal Council meeting in Faridabad, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
CM Mann said that during the meeting, he urged the Centre not to ignore Punjab’s interests or play with the emotions of its people.
Addressing the press, Mann shared that after he raised Punjab’s concerns and demanded that the existing status quo be maintained, the Centre decided to defer all 11 issues linked to Punjab. He reaffirmed that Punjab’s rights will not be compromised under any circumstances.
He also mentioned that he strongly opposed claims from neighboring states attempting to undermine Punjab’s rights and appealed to the Home Minister to ensure such attempts are not entertained.
To address irrigation-related water scarcity in North India, the Chief Minister proposed that after the Indus Waters Treaty is revoked, 24 MAF (million acre-feet) of water from the Chenab River should be diverted to Punjab, which could then be used across all northern states for agriculture.
