During today’s cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced a major step to strengthen the health and education sectors. Chandigarh Punjab News reports that the government will now offer special allowances to doctors and teachers serving in Punjab’s seven border districts.
The Finance Minister said the government will add 300 private specialist doctors to a new panel to improve healthcare services. These doctors will earn ₹100 per patient for OPD and IPD services. In OPD, each doctor can examine 50 to 150 patients, while in IPD they may check 2 to 20 patients.
Cheema stated that government hospital doctors on night duty will receive ₹1,000 for daytime emergency calls and ₹2,000 for night calls. The Cabinet also approved changes to the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
After this decision, the government directed officials to create a special policy that ensures the deployment of doctors and teachers in border areas. Chandigarh Punjab News explains that the policy will offer special allowances, improve public services, and help retain staff in these districts.
