In the latest Canada Ontario News in Punjabi, the Ontario government is planning to crack down on driving license fraud by tightening eligibility rules. A bill presented at Queen’s Park on October 23 proposes several changes that would ensure commercial driver licenses are issued based on proof of work eligibility rather than residence.
The bill also proposes mandatory minimum waiting periods for obtaining “Class G” and “Class A” driver licenses. The proposed legislation has been introduced under the Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act, 2025. It also specifies that municipalities will not be allowed to reduce lanes for other vehicles while rapidly constructing new homes or installing new bicycle lanes.
Under this new bill, all applicants for driver licenses, as well as OPC and RIN holders, will be required to provide proof of residence and legal presence in Canada.
This initiative is expected to enhance public safety, prevent fraud, ensure compliance with regulations, and address integrity concerns within the driver licensing system.
