Just six days before the Punjab Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday gave the State Election Commission a two-day notice to clarify its stance on an investigation assigned to an ADGP-level officer regarding a viral conference-call audio clip. This development has become a major topic in Chandigarh Punjab news.
The bench, headed by Chief Justice Sheel Nagoo, was hearing public interest petitions filed by former MLA Diljit Singh Cheema and other petitioners, which alleged that the clip revealed instructions to “stop opponents at homes or routes, act on the directions of local MLAs, protect ruling ‘AAP’ supporters with positive reports, cancel entries of candidates, engineer uncontested wins, and violate the model code of conduct.”
The court has asked the Election Commission to respond by Wednesday regarding the details of the investigation into the viral audio clip, just six days ahead of the Punjab Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections. This case continues to draw attention in Chandigarh Punjab news.
