According to reports, the first agreement marks the beginning of a “new golden era” in the U.S.–Japan alliance. Under this deal, Japan will implement a 15% tax on exports in return for $550 billion in Japanese investment.
The second agreement aims to establish a strong framework for securing the supply of critical and rare-earth minerals through enhanced cooperation in mining and processing.
The signing took place after President Trump met Prime Minister Takaichi at Tokyo’s Akasaka Palace on Monday. During their discussions, both leaders explored new ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations.
According to Japanese state media, Prime Minister Takaichi described the Japan–U.S. relationship as “the greatest alliance in the world” and pledged to work with Trump to build a “new golden era of the Japan–U.S. partnership.”
