ndustry Minister Mélanie Joly has stated that News From Canada Today highlights how Canada has not received the industrial benefits it expected from the deal involving U.S.-manufactured F-35 fighter jets. She emphasized that the government must make decisions that not only strengthen Canada’s military capabilities but also help create more jobs within the country.

Speaking to reporters on Parliament Hill, Joly noted that the current F-35 agreement falls short of expectations. Her comments come as Swedish aerospace company Saab considers opening a manufacturing facility in Canada to produce Gripen fighter jets, especially as global demand—driven largely by Ukraine—continues to rise.

Joly mentioned that Saab’s proposal could potentially create up to 10,000 jobs in Canada. However, she added that the federal government must carefully review and assess the offer before proceeding.
