Yogesh Kamra highlighted the importance of increasing these flights for passengers coming from Punjab. Malaysia Airlines launched the route in November 2023 with two flights a week, which was increased to four in January 2024 due to strong demand. After this, representatives of Pahal and social service organization Amritsar Vikas Manch continued discussions regarding these flights with the airline’s regional manager Amit Mehta and others. Kamra said, “The success of this route shows that Punjabis living abroad, if given the option of direct or convenient flights, now prefer Amritsar to Delhi. The main reason for this is the hassles faced in Delhi like immigration processes, double checking of luggage and additional time of 6 to 12 hours to reach Delhi and Punjab.
