Washington: Apna Punjab Media: The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced a new rule that extends the validity of green cards to 36 months for those who seek to renew or replace their green cards. For this, we file Form I-90. This new rule started on September 10, 2024 and applies to those whose green card is expiring or has already expired, they used to get a tenure of 24 months, but now it will be 36 months. This change is meant to help people who are waiting for their new green card have proof of their legal status while they wait. The information individuals receive when filing USCIS Form I-90 has also been updated. Starting September 10, 2024, these updated notices can be used with an expired green card to demonstrate that the individual still has legal status and is allowed to work. If someone loses their green card and needs proof of status while waiting for a new card, USCIS recommends making an appointment with a local office through its Contact Center.
In some cases, after filing Form I-90, people can get a special stamp, called an (ADIT) stamp, to prove their status. This new rule aims to make things easier for green card holders, give them more time and reduce the worries caused by the lengthy process.
