Washington DC: Own Punjab Media: US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris said she had a “candid and constructive meeting” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Harris said the discussion touched on America’s commitment to Israeli security, during which she appealed to Netanyahu for a ceasefire agreement in his country’s ongoing war against Hamas.
“Today, I had a candid and constructive meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu on a range of issues, including my commitment to Israel’s security, the importance and urgency of resolving the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.” Vice President Harris expressed her strong support for Israel’s right to defend itself after meeting with Netanyahu. But she also declared that she “will not remain silent” about the plight of Palestinians and pressed the parties to finally agree on a long-delayed Gaza ceasefire deal.
The meeting between Harris and Netanyahu came after the Israeli prime minister addressed a joint session of the US Congress, where he defended his country’s actions in Gaza. Earlier on July 17, US Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin said he discussed the latest round of hostage negotiations with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant.
