Washington: Apna Punjab Media: US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden expressed condolences over the deaths due to the natural disaster in Wayanad, India, which triggered massive landslides and killed over 300 people.
“My deepest condolences go out to all those affected by the deadly landslides in Kerala, India,” the White House said in an official statement. “Our prayers are with the victims of this tragic incident, and we mourn for the families who have lost loved ones. We commend the bravery of Indian service members and first responders supporting the complex recovery efforts. We will continue to keep the people of India in our thoughts during these difficult times. The death toll in the July 30 landslide at Mapadi in Wayanad district has risen to 210, while 187 people have been discharged from hospitals. So far, 210 bodies and 134 body parts have been recovered, including 96 men, 85 women and 29 children. Autopsies of 207 bodies have been completed and all recovered body parts, i.e. 146 bodies, have been identified. Currently, 84 people are undergoing treatment in hospitals in Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malpuram, while 273 people are hospitalized after the incident. Kerala Health Minister Veena George has confirmed the death of 308 people due to multiple landslides.
