Washington: Apna Punjab Media: America has advised its citizens not to travel to Bangladesh. The move comes in the wake of Sheikh Hasina’s sudden resignation as prime minister on Monday and her departure from the country amid weeks of protests. The US State Department has issued a high-level (Level 4: Do Not Travel) travel advisory and advised US non-emergency government employees deployed to Bangladesh and their families to leave the country immediately. More than 100 people have been killed so far in violent anti-reservation protests in Bangladesh. Hasina landed on Monday night in a Bangladesh Air Force C-130J military aircraft at the Hindon airbase in Ghaziabad, India, from where she was taken to an undisclosed location. It is being told that Haseena is planning to go to London but now it has come to a halt. “By August 5, 2024, the Department has ordered the departure of US non-emergency government employees and their families from Bangladesh,” the US State Department said in a travel advisory. Travelers have been advised not to travel to Bangladesh due to the ongoing unrest in Dhaka. “Violent clashes continue in and around Dhaka and Bangladesh,” the advisory said. Bangladeshi army is deployed across the country. Flight operations at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport were temporarily suspended on 5 August. Passengers should contact the respective airlines to know the status of flights. The advisory said travelers should be alert to petty crimes in crowded areas.
