Winnipeg: Apna Punjab Media: United Brampton Sports Club has won the prestigious Kabaddi Cup organized by Toronto Punjabi Sports Club under the banner of Kabaddi Federation of Ontario operating in the province of Ontario, Canada. During this fourth cup of the season, the International Punjabi Sports Club team finished as the runner-up. In the first match of this cup, International Punjabi Sports Club defeated the host Toronto Punjabi Sports Club team by 35-31.5 points, in the second match, GTA Club team defeated Metro Punjabi Sports Club team by 41.5-32 points. In the third match, the team of Ontario Kabaddi Club defeated the team of Toronto Punjabi Sports Club by 43.5-29 points, in the fourth match, the team of United Brampton Sports Club defeated the team of Metro Punjabi Sports Club by 37-31.5 points and reached the semi-finals. In the first semi-final, the team of International Punjabi Sports Club defeated the team of GTA Club by 45.5-42 points in a very tough match and in the second semi-final, the team of United Brampton Sports Club defeated the team of OKC. Made it to the finals by defeating the club with 39.5-38 points. In the final match, United Brampton Sports Club team won the second title of the season by defeating International Punjabi Sports Club team by 45-36.5 points. In the Under-21 category, Yafta International Punjabi Sports Club, coached by coach Bhola Lit and Surinder Tony Kalkh, was the winner for the fourth consecutive time. Metro Punjabi Sports Club team was the runner up.
Cup-winning United Brampton Sports Club player Sheelu Bahu Akbarpur won the best stopper title after making 7 saves out of 25 attempts. Shilu emerged as the best runner for the third time in the four tournaments held so far this season. Runner-up International Punjabi Sports Club player Ravi Kelram scored 29 points from 33 raids and won the title of best raider. Haryana’s shortstops Ravi Kelram and Shilu Bahu Akbarpur won the honors of being the best batsman and stopper respectively.
In the junior teams competition, Gabhret of International Punjabi Sports Club stood first for the fourth consecutive time. Five former players were awarded gold medals during the Cup. On this occasion, famous and former players Sandeep Lallian, Sandeep Gurdaspur, Beera Sidhawan and commentator Kala Rachin were honored with gold medals by the host club president Harry Maunder (American System) and Harman Kalra. On this occasion, former players Kulwaran Mana and Sunny Kohar were also honored with gold medals. On this occasion, MP Jasraj Halan, MP Tim Uppal and MP Ruby Sahota, Mayor Patrick Brown, Rana Randhawa from Punjab, former chairman, Kabaddi promoter Gurmel Singh Pehalwan arrived as special guests.
