‘Politics revolving around farmers “
After resigning from the post of Punjab BJP President, senior leader Sunil Jakhar has now started putting ‘Kisan and Kisan’ at the center of his politics. Sunil Jakhar’s father, the late Balram Jakhar, who was a former Lok Sabha Speaker, was known for his contribution to agricultural diversification. Balram Jakhar is credited with bringing kinnow and vineyards to the Abohar and Fazilka region. Balram Jakhar was a leader of the Bharatiya Krishak Samaj, a farmers’ organisation, in 1965. Sunil Jakhar seems to be carrying forward the same political legacy.
The BJP’s central leadership is yet to take a decision on Sunil Jakhar’s resignation. They are indirectly praising the BJP government at the Centre on the issue of farmers. Mr. Jakhar feels that the problems of farmers seem to be bigger than other issues. He took the initiative after he told the BJP’s central leadership that there was no Sarna without doing something for Punjab and farmers. But Sunil Jakhar is now targeting the opposition parties. Two days ago, through a video, Sunil Jakhar had also put the Congress party in the dock by raising the issue of the loot of farmers in the mandis. He advised the Congress to stop playing politics and raise the voice of farmers. “The voice of farmers is not being heard. The Congress remained confused in the by-elections and continued to loot the farmers in the mandis. Sunil Jakhar today said that the vision and approach of the Central Government for the betterment of farmers is clear. “At the behest of the AAP government, farmers have been looted on a large scale in the mandis. After this loot, the farmers are now waiting for the Centre, which is one of the reasons why the leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Congress party are busy saving their lives.
