United Nations: Apna Punjab Media: Farhan Haq, deputy spokesperson for United Nations (UN) chief Antonio Guterres, said the final resolution of the Kashmir issue should be achieved through peaceful means and full respect for human rights under the UN Charter. He said this in the context of the Shimla Agreement signed between India and Pakistan in 1972, In which any third party mediation was rejected. Haq said in a press conference on Wednesday, “There has been no change in our stand on Kashmir. Haq made this comment in response to a question asked by a Palestinian journalist about the UN Secretary General’s position on Kashmir and the situation in Jammu and Kashmir five years after the abrogation of Article 370. He said that the stance of the United Nations is decided on the basis of the applicable provisions of the United Nations Charter and the Security Council. According to Haq, “The Secretary General takes into account the bilateral relations between India and Pakistan also known as the Shimla Agreement.”
