Washington: Apna Punjab Media: The Lower House of the United States has passed a bill that will require people registering to vote in federal elections in the country to present proof of US citizenship. House lawmakers vote to safeguard US voter eligibility The bill repealing the Act was passed with a majority of 221-198. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said it would help ensure security at federal elections amid a surge in illegal immigration at the southern border under the Biden administration. Under this bill, only American citizens are eligible to vote. The White House said it opposed the law because non-citizens can vote in federal elections sometimes, not necessarily every time. Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk said lawmakers opposing the law are traitors to America and those who disagree with the bill are trying to commit election fraud.
