Florida : Apna Punjab Media : A Florida man has pleaded not guilty to human trafficking in the death of four members of an Indian family last year, just steps from the Canada-US border. He refused and declared himself innocent. According to the news of the ‘Grand Forks Herald’ newspaper, Steve Shand (48) is accused of illegally bringing immigrants from India to the United States during the harsh winter of January 2022. When Minnesota Magistrate Judge Leo Brisbois asked Shand what he would say about the charges, he said, “I do not accept the charges.” Shand was arrested in January 2022 in a remote area of northern Minnesota. The bodies of four people were found by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) about 12 meters from the Canada-US border in Manitoba, the Canada Press News Agency reported. Authorities believe they died while trying to enter the US. The deceased were identified as 39-year-old Jagdish Patel, his wife Vaishaliben (37), 11-year-old daughter Vihangi and three-year-old son Dharmik.
