Ottawa: On Punjab Media: Punjabis planning to contest elections in Canada next year may face difficulties. In an effort to prevent foreign interference, Elections Canada recommends that only Canadian citizens participate in the nomination of candidates and exclude others from the process. Chief Electoral Officer Stephen Parro has drafted a recommendation that will be presented to a commission investigating foreign interference in the near future.
Experts say that the proposed changes may create difficulties for potential candidates and may also impact the internal policies of political parties. At the same time, the biggest advantage will be that only selected voters will be able to participate during the nomination contest and the risk of irregularities will almost be eliminated.
