JERUSALEM: Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Mike Herzog, has said a ceasefire agreement with Israel and Lebanon-based Hezbollah could be reached within days to end the war. Israel is expected to announce a ceasefire with Hezbollah after a US envoy negotiated a deal with both sides last week. Mike Herzog told Israeli army radio that some points had yet to be finalized and that any agreement would require approval from the government. However, he said they are close to an agreement and an agreement could be reached within days, adding that the issues that remain deadlocked include preserving the right to take action in case of violations by Hezbollah. The agreement aims to push Hezbollah and Israeli forces out of southern Lebanon. Hezbollah is accused of not complying with the UN resolution, but Lebanon says Israel has also violated the 2006 resolution. It was not clear whether Lebanon would agree to the demand.
