Chandigarh: Apna Punjab Media: Bharatiya Janata Party can send Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Ravneet Singh Bittu to the Rajya Sabha from Haryana. Bittu can be the party’s candidate from the only vacant Rajya Sabha seat of Haryana. Sources said Bittu is being considered as the BJP candidate from the vacant Rajya Sabha seat in Haryana as the saffron party is eyeing the votes of the influential Sikh community in the state for the upcoming assembly elections. Bittu is the former Chief Minister of Punjab, late Beant. Singh’s grandson. Beant Singh was murdered by terrorists in 1995. BJP does not have any big Sikh face in the state, for which the party is considering the name of Union Minister of State Bittu.
Bittu’s nomination will also put an end to the allegations made by Sikh organizations of not giving adequate representation to the Sikh community in Haryana. A senior party leader said that Bittu’s nomination to Rajya Sabha could prove to be a game changer. After losing on BJP ticket from Ludhiana in the recently held Lok Sabha elections, Bittu has time till mid-December. Till then he will have to get elected and reach the Parliament (Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha). At present there is no Sikh minister in the Haryana government, because after Nayab Singh Saini became the Chief Minister, the state’s only Sikh BJP MLA Sandeep Singh was also removed from the cabinet.
