A man has been arrested, and a murder investigation is underway, after the body of a man was found in water off a Melbourne pier.
Police and paramedics were called to Frankston Pier, which runs off Pier Promenade, after reports of an assault about halfway down the pier just after 6am on Saturday.
The man is believed to have been found in the water, and was declared dead at the scene.
Officers found a second man on the foreshore nearby a shortly later.
Police said the man is currently assisting with their enquiries.
“The area has been cordoned off, and a crime scene established,” police said.
“Homicide Squad detectives are investigating and at this stage are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.”
Police said the men were not known to one another.
