New York: Apna Punjab Media: Claiming that relations between India and China will impact the entire world, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has said that to advance bilateral relations between the two countries, there is a need to first restore peace on the border. Jaishankar said during an event organized by Asia Society and Asia Society Policy Institute here that the parallel development of India and China is a very unique problem. He also assured that India’s relations with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will remain positive and constructive. He said that India does not want to control the political situation of every neighboring country.
Speaking on the topic ‘India, Asia and the World’, Jaishankar said, ‘I think India-China relations are important for the future of Asia. You can say that if the world has to become multi-polar, Asia will have to be multi-polar. Therefore, relations with China will affect the future not only of Asia but also of the world. He said that there are two countries which are neighbors and are unique in the sense that they are also countries with a population of more than a billion. Both are emerging in the global system and their boundaries are blurred and there is a common boundary. So this is a very complex issue. The External Affairs Minister said, “When I say that about 75 percent of the issue with China has been resolved, it is only regarding the withdrawal of forces. So that’s part of the problem. Jaishankar said that there is a border dispute of 3,500 kilometers between India and China. Therefore, it is important to ensure that there is peace on the border so that discussions on other issues can move forward.
