Paris Olympics 2024: The Indian men’s hockey team lost to Belgium during the Paris Olympics

Paris: Apna Punjab Media: Indian men’s hockey team has suffered its first defeat in the Paris Olympics. India were defeated 2-1 by defending Olympic champions Belgium in their last Pool B match on Thursday. Thibaut Stockbroux (33rd minute) and John-John Dohman (44th minute) scored for Belgium. Abhishek scored the only goal for India in the 18th minute.

This is the first defeat of the Indian men’s hockey team in the Paris Olympics. Tokyo 2020 bronze medalists India have won 2 of their last 3 matches in Paris. The team led by star drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh defeated New Zealand 3-2 and Ireland 2-0. Along with this, he played a 1-1 draw against Argentina.
In the match against Belgium, India was leading 1-0 till half time. India’s star forward Abhishek gave India the lead by scoring a goal in the 18th minute of the first half. However, India failed to maintain its lead. In the third quarter, Belgium’s Thibaut Stockbroux (33′) and John-John Dohman (44′) scored goals to put Belgium ahead of India 2-1, due to which the match slipped out of India’s hands. With this victory, current Olympic champion Belgium continued its winning streak in Paris. Before defeating India, they beat Ireland 2-0, beat New Zealand 2-1 and registered a thrilling 6-2 win against Tokyo 2020 silver medalists Australia.
