Haryana’s DGP has requested through a letter to cancel the recommendation of giving gallantry awards to the police officers who stopped the farmers at Shambhu and Khanuri border.
Chandigarh: Apna Punjab Media: Senior Congress Party leader and Leader of Opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa has written a letter to President Draupadi Murmu. Through this letter, he has demanded to cancel the recommendation of Haryana DGP to give gallantry awards to the police officers who stopped the farmers at Shambhu and Khanuri border. Mr Bajwa wrote in the letter that these awards are proposed for those police officers who are accused of ordering indiscriminate firing on farmers during peaceful protests at Shambhu and Khanuri border. Therefore the recommendation of gallantry awards for Haryana Police officers should be rejected. Shri Bajwa said that instead of protecting the rights of the peacefully protesting farmers, the Haryana Police used force against them, resulting in the death of a young farmer, Shubhakaran Singh, and injuries to agitating farmers at the Shambhu and Khanuri border. Alleged that Haryana Police harassed the farmers and registered false cases against them.
The Leader of Opposition said that the recommendation by the Haryana Government to give gallantry awards to the said police officers shows direct interference in the ongoing judicial process. With such attitude of the Haryana Government, an impartial investigation cannot be expected from the Haryana Police.
