Ontario: Apna Punjab Media: The next legislative election in Ontario will not be held according to federal constituencies and only 124 seats will be contested. Premier Doug Ford said Ontario is breaking tradition this time and will not hold elections for seats expanded according to the federal government’s new constituencies. Doug Ford’s announcement also means that Toronto City Council boundaries will not be redrawn and the city will have only 25 councillors. During the 2026 municipal elections, there will be 24 councilors instead of 25. Doug Ford questioned why the change should be made just because the federal government wants new constituencies. “There’s no doubt people have done it, governments have done it, but I wouldn’t do it,” the Ontario premier said during a press conference at Lake Ridge Health Oshawa. It would have been better if there were at least politicians. It has to be mentioned here that Doug Ford’s cabinet has 36 ministers and the Prime Minister who formed the largest cabinet in the history of Ontario was heard talking about the least number of politicians.
