Chandigarh: Apna Punjab Media: The process of filing nomination papers for Panchayat elections in Punjab will start from tomorrow. Deputy Commissioners finalized the preparations for the elections today. The work of reservation of Sarpanches in the state has been completed and notification has been issued in all the districts. Deputy Commissioners have appointed Returning Officer and Assistant Returning Officer for Panchayat elections. The Punjab State Election Commission has issued a 99-page booklet with instructions to the returning officers. The process of filing nomination papers will continue till October 4. Nomination papers are to be filed for 13,237 panchayats of Punjab, out of which 13,237 sarpanches and 84,437 panches will be elected. 19,110 polling booths will be made for voting. SDM has been appointed as the nodal officer for the Panchayat elections, who has also fixed the respective places for submitting nomination papers. There will be a separate place for each block where the returning officer will be present. Political activities of people willing to contest elections have increased and they are in a race to get ‘No Dues’ certificate. According to the instructions issued by the Election Commission, candidates will also have to publish details of their assets and income.
