Dhaka: Apna Punjab Media: A day after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country, Bangladesh President Mohammad Shahabuddin has dissolved the Parliament. Meanwhile, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus (84) has been appointed the head of the interim government of Bangladesh. This information has been given by the Press Secretary of the President. According to the information, he will get the powers of the Prime Minister. The President took the decision to appoint Yunus as the head of the interim government only after consulting the chiefs of the three services, leaders of political parties, representatives of civil society and leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement. Meanwhile, in a major reshuffle at the top posts, Bangladesh Army has removed National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC) Director General Major General Ziaul Ahsan from the post.
Lieutenant General Muhammad Saiful Alam has been given the charge of the Foreign Ministry. Similarly, some other officers have also been transferred. Former Bangladesh Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmood and former minister Junaid Ahmed Palak were detained at Dhaka airport while leaving the country. Mahmood was preparing to catch a flight to Delhi. According to the statement issued by the President’s Office, jailed Bangladesh National Party President and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has been released. The process of releasing the arrested people has started from July 1 and many people have been released. The death toll in anti-government protests in Bangladesh has increased to 440.
