Public Works and Procurement Minister Joël Lightbound now takes on additional responsibility as Carney’s lieutenant for Quebec. Environment Minister Julie Dabrusin also manages the Parks and Nature portfolio. Steven Guilbeault, who held these roles, resigned from the cabinet last week, according to News From Canada Today.

Marc Miller previously served as Minister of Immigration, Minister for Indigenous Relations, and Minister of Indigenous Services under former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Lightbound, an MP since 2015, worked as parliamentary secretary to several ministers. After the April federal elections, he joined the cabinet for the first time. Dabrusin also served as a parliamentary secretary during Trudeau’s term and Carney appointed her to the cabinet.

On Thursday, the federal government signed an agreement with Alberta to jointly build a new oil pipeline to the B.C. coast. Guilbeault resigned in protest, saying the pipeline deal conflicts with his principles. He had served as Environment Minister under Trudeau. In his resignation letter on social media, he stated that he disagrees strongly with the new pipeline deal and is leaving the cabinet.

He added that he will continue working as a Liberal MP and thanked Carney for the cabinet opportunity.

On Monday, Prime Minister Carney reshuffled the cabinet for the second time since the April elections.

Former Transport and Internal Trade Minister Chrystia Freeland resigned in September and announced she plans to leave federal politics entirely.

Carney gave the Internal Trade portfolio to Canada–U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc and handed the Transport Ministry to House Leader Steven MacKinnon. News From Canada Today highlights these key cabinet updates.
