The Central government and the National Testing Agency (NTA) have told the Supreme Court that canceling the controversial NEET-UG, 2024 exam would not be a valid step and would pose a ‘serious threat’ to the future of lakhs of honest students who appeared for the exam. The Center and NTA filed separate affidavits in this regard.
On various applications seeking cancellation and re-conduct of the controversial NEET exam and a court-monitored probe, the Union Education Ministry and NTA said there is no evidence of large-scale malpractices in the exam. In its initial affidavit filed by a director of the education ministry, the NTA said, “It is also argued that in the absence of any evidence of gross malpractice in the examination, the entire examination and the results already declared shall be cancelled.” Will not be valid.” It has been said in the affidavit that there is a right to compete in any examination so that the interests of those students who do not adopt any unfair means in the examination are not harmed. The affidavit said the Center is committed to protecting the interests of lakhs of students who have appeared in the examination after years of hard work without gaining any illegal advantage. “Genuine concerns based on proven facts must be addressed,” it said. Further applications based on mere speculation without any facts should be rejected so that honest students and their families do not have to face unnecessary suffering. In response to various applications, NTA said that some alleged cases of irregularities, fraud and irregularities have come to light and the government has asked the CBI to investigate the same. The Supreme Court will hear several other applications on July 8.
