Washington: Apna Punjab Media: The number of illegal infiltrations by immigrants at the southern border of the United States has declined for the fifth consecutive month, according to official data. US Border Patrol agents apprehended nearly 57,000 migrants at the border in July, the lowest number recorded since September 2020. The number has dropped significantly from December, when about 250,000 migrants were caught crossing the border. President Joe Biden’s administration has blamed the lack of recent actions to combat illegal immigration into the US as an election-year political weakness for Democrats.
Mayorkas said these actions include an executive order signed by President Joe Biden last month that allows US immigration officials to deport immigrants without processing their asylum claims. The measure has been called one of the most restrictive border policies by a Democratic president in recent memory, and was criticized by members of the party on the left.
