Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad on Tuesday said West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee should be allowed to lead India Block. His comments came days after Banerjee expressed her desire to take over the reins of the anti-BJP alliance.
Asked about the Congress’s objection to accepting him as the Leader of Opposition, Lalu said, “Congress’s opposition will not make any difference. He should be allowed to lead the India Alliance. Earlier, Lalu’s son and senior RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav had said that he has no objection to any senior leader of the India Alliance, including Banerjee, leading the alliance, but insisted that the decision should be taken unanimously. It may be recalled that Mamata had on December 6 expressed dissatisfaction over the functioning of the India Alliance and indicated her intention to take over the reins of the alliance if given a chance.
