Chandigarh: Apna Punjab Media: Leaders of Shiromani Akali Dal Reform Movement have termed the decision to expel Shiromani Akali Dal patron Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa from the party as unconstitutional and contrary to traditions. Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra, Bibi Jagir Kaur, Baldev Singh Mann, Sucha Singh Chhotepur, Bhai Manjit Singh, Surjit Singh Rakhra and Gaganjit Singh Barnala said in a statement issued here today that the party’s constitution includes only the working committee and the political committee. Matters are not included, there is no provision for any other committee. He said that when the so-called disciplinary committee itself is unconstitutional, then how can the decision taken by it be constitutional? Describing Maheshinder Singh Grewal’s argument of giving the honorary post of ‘Patron’ to the party’s ‘surplus’ leader as meaningless, Akali leaders asked why Prakash Singh Badal was kept on the post of Chief Minister even after being made the patron. How did he remain the de facto head and patriarch of the party for nearly 15 years?
