Will raise the issue of relief and rescue operations with the Center and Chief Minister of Kerala: Rahul Gandhi
Wayanad: Apna Punjab Media: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi described the landslide incident in Wayanad district of Kerala as a terrible tragedy which has not been seen in any area of the state till now. He said that this tragedy should be dealt with in a different way. The Congress leader said he would also raise the matter with Delhi and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan as it is a different kind of tragedy and should be dealt with differently. The focus now is on finding bodies and possible survivors and ensuring that the displaced people live in better conditions in the camps and can be rehabilitated. Rahul said that rehabilitation will be very important because the survivors of this disaster have told him that they do not want to go back to the landslide-affected areas. He also promised that the Congress party will build more than 100 houses in Wayanad. He was talking to journalists after a meeting with the district administration and panchayat officials. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and many other senior leaders of the party were also present in the meeting.
Officials briefed him about the death toll in landslide incidents and their strategies to search for destroyed houses and people. Before this, Rahul, Priyanka, KC Venugopal, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee chief K. Sudhakaran and other party leaders, including Leader of Opposition in the Assembly VD Satheesan, met a delegation of Mepadi Gram Panchayat. A day earlier, Rahul Gandhi had reached Wayanad and took stock of the situation after the landslide. Declaring it a national disaster, he demanded an immediate large-scale action plan to deal with it.
