Slogans of ‘Kill India’ and ‘Delhi Banega Khalistan’ were being raised. The referendum was organized by the extremist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) in front of the local US diplomatic mission. New Delhi had filed a complaint against this anti-India incident in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada. Despite this, Justin Trudeau’s police did not take any steps to stop it. Actually, when anti-India slogans were raised, Canadian police remained silent spectators.
Nijhar’s family casts first vote :- The referendum started in the morning and continued till evening, in which members of the Sikh community in Alberta participated. Alberta has a large Sikh population. About 1 lakh of the 10 lakh Sikhs in Canada live here. The family of prominent Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nizhar was among the first to vote. Nizhar was shot dead on June 28, 2023 in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.
