Indian-origin doctor charged with attempted second-degree murder and other charges

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Hussan Ladoa Banga) – Rupesh Jain, 53, an Indian-origin licensed plastic surgeon, has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and other serious crimes in connection with the shooting in downtown Colorado Springs. Charges have been filed in the American state of Colorado. Dr. Jain is currently undergoing psychiatric treatment in the El Paso County Jail. According to Colorado Springs Police, officers responded to the scene after a woman reported shots fired. Shots were fired from the doctor’s apartment next door, wounding a 25-year-old man named Lekan Derschmidt. During investigation, several bullet marks were found on the wall of the doctor’s apartment. Several bullet casings have also been recovered from the spot. Bullets were also fired by Jain at two major bank locations. According to the police, the manager of Ivala Wills Inn restaurant has written a report that Jain fired several bullets at the front door of the restaurant before asking for pizza. When Jain returned to the apartment, the police arrested him. Even then he had pizza in his hand. Jain told police officers that he was planning to commit suicide. According to the police, the doctor caused damage worth more than one lakh dollars, including breaking two ATMs.
