Dhaka: Apna Punjab Media: Dhaka University authorities today announced indefinite closure of the institute after at least six people, including three students, died in protests demanding reforms in reservation in government jobs in Bangladesh. The authorities have instructed the students to vacate the hostel. Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Seetesh C Bachar said the decision was taken at an emergency syndicate meeting held at the office of Vice-Chancellor ASM Maqsood Kamal. Bacher told the ‘Daily Star’, “Keeping in mind the safety of the students, we have decided to close the university indefinitely and vacate the halls.” The newspaper said in its report that the students of the university were protesting against this. are protesting the decision It is noteworthy that at least 6 people, including three students, died, while more than 100 people were injured in the clashes between protesters and police demanding improvement in the reservation system for government jobs in big cities of Bangladesh. On June 5, the High Court declared the 2018 government circular ending reservation in government jobs illegal, after which on July 10, the Supreme Court issued a stay order on the High Court’s decision. After this, the University Grants Commission (UGC) asked all universities to postpone classes and vacate hostels till further notice. This decision was taken in the syndicate meeting of Dhaka University on Wednesday.
