Moscow: Apna Punjab Media: India has summoned Ukraine’s ambassador over President Volodymyr Zelensky’s criticism of the meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin last week. Speaking on July 8, a day after a deadly Russian attack that damaged a children’s hospital, Zelensky called Modi’s visit to Russia and his meeting with the Russian leader “a major disappointment and blow to peace efforts.” The criticism sparked outrage in New Delhi, as the Indian External Affairs Ministry summoned Ukraine’s ambassador on July 15 to raise the issue.
India has also postponed the meeting of the Joint Working Group on Culture with Ukraine. Modi arrived in Moscow on July 8 for talks with Putin, his first visit to the country since the start of the full-scale offensive. New Delhi is seeking a diplomatic solution to Russia’s war with Ukraine, but is also seeking closer economic ties with Moscow. India became one of the main buyers of Russian oil after Western sanctions, although this trade is under threat from the pressure of US sanctions.
