New Delhi: Apna Punjab Media: Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland said India is not historically responsible for the climate crisis, but it should not copy the 19th century polluting practices of Western countries during its development. Scotland said in the interview that India has an opportunity to lead a just energy transition by sharing expertise and technology across a group of 56 countries called the Commonwealth, representing 2.7 billion people.
He also said that India can set an example of a new, clean and safe development model, which can serve as a beacon of hope for the ‘Global South’. The term ‘Global South’ is generally used to refer to economically less developed countries. He said that despite not being responsible for the crisis, India is facing serious climate problems including extreme heat, floods and severe monsoons and must act.
