India can play an important role to stop ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine: Ambassador Eric Garcetti

Kolkata: Apna Punjab Media: America’s Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti has said that India can play an important and big role in stopping the war between Russia and Ukraine. He said that the world’s largest democracy should take a decision on this. Welcoming India’s growing role in international relations, the US Ambassador said that he is also working to strengthen the Global South. He also appreciated the efforts of the Indian Navy in rescuing ships hijacked by pirates in the Indian Ocean. Ambassador Garcetti said, “Whatever role India wants to play in resolving any kind of war in the world, we will welcome it.” India has strong relations with Ukraine and Russia. Therefore, India can play a big and important role. He said that America’s concerns regarding India’s relations with Russia are clear. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event in Kolkata, the US Ambassador said that the basic principle in international relations is the autonomy of borders. “We supported India in defending our borders and on that basis we have taken a strong stance in the unprovoked war against the Ukrainian people,” he said. Garcetti said that his statement about Manipur in July last year was misinterpreted. He reiterated that the issue of Manipur belongs to India and Indians and it has to be resolved by India only.
