Wayanad: Apna Punjab Media: A terrible accident took place near Mepari in Wayanad district of Kerala. Due to the heavy rain, cracks appeared in the mountains and heavy debris came down with the water, under which the people living in the mountains were buried. So far 24 people have died in this accident. Two children are also included in the dead. More than 100 people are still expected to be buried in the debris. Rescue operation continues.
As soon as he got the information about the landslide, Prime Minister Modi called the Chief Minister of Kerala. After reviewing the situation and the rescue operation, he announced compensation for the people killed in the landslide. According to the announcement, Rs 2 lakh will be given to the families of those who died in the landslide and Rs 50,000 to the injured. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has confirmed the landslide.
NDRF teams are engaged in rescue work. Teams of Kannur Defense Security Corps are also present on the spot. The landslide accident happened around 2 am when people were sleeping. After this, the debris came again at around 4 o’clock. 16 people have been rescued, who have been admitted to the hospital. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan himself is monitoring the rescue operation. He has instructed the district police, administration and hospital officials to cooperate. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that it has been raining heavily in Wayanad for the last 24 hours, due to which the landslide occurred this morning. As soon as the accident was reported, police and administration officials reached the spot. (NDRF) teams have been deployed for rescue operations and two Indian Air Force helicopters-17 are rescuing people trapped in the debris.
