Beirut: Apna Punjab Media: Ismail Haniyeh (62), the exiled and supreme leader of the terrorist organization Hamas, was killed in an air strike in the early hours of Wednesday in Iran’s capital Tehran. Israel, under the leadership of Haniyeh, attacked Hamas on October 7 last year. Had targeted the Jewish state after the attacks. Hamas said Haniyeh was at his residence in Tehran at the time of the Israeli airstrike.
Earlier, Hamas leaders had attended the swearing-in ceremony of the new President of Iran. On the other hand, Israel has not yet made any official comment on these allegations of Hamas.
Haniyeh had been in self-imposed exile in Qatar since 2019. Hamas leader visited Turkey and Iran amid the ongoing war with Israel. He was also involved in negotiations for a ceasefire and the release of kidnapped Israeli civilians from Doha. Haniyeh loved his role in the Hamas leadership. Haniyeh’s three sons were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza in April. After this the Hamas leader accused Israel of ‘revenge and murder’. Hamas said Haniyeh’s sister and two grandchildren were killed in a separate airstrike last month. Born in an urban Shati refugee camp in Gaza, Haniyeh was among the founding members of Hamas.
