Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia has been acquitted by a Dhaka court in a corruption case. The trial court sentenced him to seven years in prison. The 79-year-old was convicted by a Dhaka court in 2018 in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case. During the Awami League government of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he was sentenced to seven years and fined one million taka. A two-member bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain passed the order, reports bdnews24.com. On February 8, 2018, Zia was sent to Old Dhaka Central Jail after being sentenced to five years imprisonment by a special court in the Anath Ashram Trust graft case.
